Michael and I have had this paper booklet we've written in since before we were married. It holds a variety of foods. The first several recipes are here at the website:

https://www.donnadietz.com/food/

You can see that it was 8/2002 when I first converted some of these to LaTeX and html, but the collection predates this first archival date.

Recently, I patched up the html, because several pages had been lost. Somehow as if by magic, my personal file archives did manage to catch those missing HTML files, and I wrote a python script to redirect the "Up", "Next" and "Previous" buttons. I had to recreate some of them, because each one has a grayed-out version. So it looks a little odd, because it is. But at least it works now.

Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01235675097391598450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7751722087003241340.post-7407436523181256562023-05-07T08:45:00.004-04:002023-05-16T21:43:52.771-04:00Bread Machine (and Oven) Sticky Buns
STICKY BUNS

Measure out 1 1/2 tsp yeast, set aside to allow to warm

SD-YD250 Bread Machine Dough:

Measure into bread machine pan.

3 C whole wheat Flour

1 1/4 C unbleached all-purpose flour

2 tsp salt

2 TBLS oil

2 TBLS honey or brown sugar

1 3/4 C water

place 1 1/2 tsp in yeast dispenser

Select WHOLE WHEAT, then select DOUGH. R. Dietz)

BISCUITS

7 ½ C whole wheat/unbleached white (I used 4 C ww, 3 ½ white)

2 C quick oats

½ C gluten flour

¾ C Sucanat or brown sugar

2 T baking yeast

1 T salt

4 C warm water (about 115 degrees, 2 min. in microwave)

1 C vegetable oil

In a large mixing bowl, mix the first section (dry ingredients )
together. Make a well in the middle and add water and vegetable oil. Mix
with a wooden spoon until mixed enough to dump onto a floured surface.
Add additional whole wheat flour (if necessary) while kneading and only
knead long enough to make a workable (NOT stiff, but floppy) dough. With
a rolling pin, roll to a thickness of 1 inch. Using a biscuit cutter,
cut out the biscuits and place on oiled cookie sheet to rise for 20
minutes. Bake in 300 degree oven for approximately 30 minutes until
lightly browned. Remove to cooling racks to cool.

Note: we freeze the extras. After they have thawed, pop them into the
microwave for a minute or so and they will be soft…and of course,
yummy.

Use with Chip Beef Gravy.

Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01235675097391598450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7751722087003241340.post-57729353927583880012023-05-01T16:01:00.002-04:002023-05-01T16:01:21.763-04:00Tofu patties (c. 1989?)
Tofu Patties from Mrs. Wood (Greg Miller's aunt)

1lb drained/mashed tofu
1 medium onion
4 eggs
1/3 c instant cream of wheat (uncooked)
1/2 c (or more) uncooked oatmeal
1c dry chicken soymeat (TVP?)
1 heaping Tsp McKay's Chicken seasoning
1 envelope of GW broth
1 tsp sweet basil

mix together, let stand 10-15 minutes.

Fry patties. One of Donna's Dad's favorites!

1/2 C toasted sesame seeds (second most important ingredient!)
3/4 C butter/etc soft
1 C packed light brown sugar
1 large egg
1 C flour
1/2 t salt
1/2 t baking soda (or powder)
1/2 t cinnamon
1 C quick oats
1 C finely chopped dried apricots (this makes the whole thing possible)
1/2 C seedless raisins (swap out for currants or craisins if desired)

To toast seeds: spread in shallow pan and bake in 350F 5-8 minutes stirring occasionally until golden. Remove from oven. Cool. (You can probably do this on top of the stove if you have a big enough pan to manage that as well!)

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, egg, until light and fluffy. Stir flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon into butter mixture until well mixed. Add oats, apricots, toasted sesame seeds, and raisins. Mix well. Mixture will be thick. Spread evenly into greased 12"x9" pan. Bake in 350F oven 25 min or until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool before cutting. Makes 24 2"squares.
Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01235675097391598450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7751722087003241340.post-73593749027987798572023-04-30T16:54:00.000-04:002023-04-30T16:54:00.401-04:00Blue potatoes and turnips
I wonder if maybe we had some random food co-op thing going or what, but clearly we had some roots and got creative here...

1.5 lb diced blue potatoes
1 diced turnip
boil 20 min

3 cloves garlic
1 sliced onion
fry in olive oil

Combine that with oregano, salt, paprika
Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01235675097391598450noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7751722087003241340.post-45955485633847359112023-04-30T16:52:00.003-04:002023-04-30T16:52:18.380-04:00Quinoa and tomatoes
1 cup red quinoa
generous 2 cups of water
3 diced tomatoes
Boil these items to cook

Add to above:
dash of salt
bunch of fresh cilantro
1/8-1/4 cup or so of lemon juice
Cook down liquid.
Donnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01235675097391598450noreply@blogger.com0
